Zebra Class – Ages 3 to 13 Months

At Noddy Nursery School Alberton, our Zebra Class provides a safe, nurturing environment for babies aged 3–13 months, where care and play are combined to support early development. At this stage, school is not a formal concept but rather a foundation for learning through routine, exploration, and sensory experiences.

Language & Communication

Babies absorb language naturally by listening to songs, stories, and familiar voices. Through daily interactions, they begin to recognize sounds, respond to their names, and imitate simple coos or words. These early experiences build the foundation for future speech and communication.

Cognitive Development

Infants learn about their world through senses and exploration. They begin to understand object permanence – that objects exist even when out of sight – through games like peek-a-boo. Recognition of familiar faces, patterns, and routines helps develop memory, problem-solving, and logical thinking at an age-appropriate level.

Social & Emotional Development

The Zebra Class focuses on building trust and secure attachments between babies and caregivers. Infants learn to express emotions, respond to the emotions of others, and develop early social awareness. Gentle interactions encourage bonding, self-confidence, and comfort in social settings.

Motor Skills Development

  • Gross Motor Skills: Activities like tummy time, crawling, rolling, standing, and early walking help babies build strength and coordination.

  • Fine Motor Skills: Babies practice grasping, reaching, and holding toys, laying the groundwork for hand-eye coordination and independence.

Sensory Play & Exploration

Sensory play is an important part of development at this age. Babies explore textures, sounds, colors, and safe objects that encourage curiosity and brain development. Activities such as soft toys, rattles, water play, and textured mats provide stimulating experiences that support both cognitive and motor growth.

Approaches to Learning

The Zebra Class encourages curiosity, persistence, and initiative. Babies develop by experimenting with their environment – rolling over, reaching for toys, sitting up, and eventually crawling and walking. Each small milestone builds confidence and independence.

At Noddy Nursery School Alberton, the Zebra Class provides a loving environment where babies can grow, explore, and thrive while laying the foundations for lifelong learning.
