Lion Class – Grade R, Ages 5 to 6
Our Lion Class at Noddy Nursery School Alberton prepares children aged 5–6 for formal schooling by focusing on language, mathematics, life skills, and holistic development. The program nurtures cognitive, social-emotional, physical, creative, and problem-solving abilities, ensuring children transition confidently to Grade 1.
Language Development:
Children receive instruction in their home language – English or Afrikaans. Activities focus on vocabulary expansion, phonics awareness, letter formation, early reading, and writing skills. Storytelling, discussion, and interactive language games encourage clear communication, comprehension, and confidence in expressing ideas.
Mathematics & Numeracy:
Learners explore basic number concepts, counting, number formation, patterns, sequences, and early algebraic thinking. They develop an understanding of shapes, spatial relationships, length, weight, capacity, and engage in simple data collection and representation. Practical, play-based activities help children connect mathematical concepts to everyday life.
Life Skills & Social-Emotional Development:
Children develop self-awareness, self-confidence, and social skills through collaborative activities and group projects. They learn to adapt to routines, work independently, and cooperate with peers, fostering emotional regulation and social competence.
Physical Development:
Gross and fine motor skills are enhanced through outdoor play, ball games, and creative arts activities. Children build coordination, balance, strength, and overall physical fitness.
Creative Arts & Exploration:
Through art, music, imaginative play, and exploration of nature, children develop creativity, observation skills, and a love for learning about the world around them, including animals, the environment, and their community.
Problem-Solving & Cognitive Skills:
Children are encouraged to approach tasks with a problem-solving mindset, develop critical thinking skills, and engage in activities that challenge their reasoning and decision-making abilities.
Our Approach:
The Lion Class program provides a well-rounded curriculum that balances structured learning, play, creativity, and practical life experiences. Children gain the foundational skills, confidence, and curiosity needed to excel in Grade 1 and beyond.
At Noddy Nursery School Alberton, the Lion Class helps children grow academically, socially, and emotionally while fostering a lifelong love of learning.
